Who Will You Invite to the Party?

Why are you having a party? Who is the party for? You will need to consider these questions before you make out a guest list. Inviting the right people will help make the party a success. Inviting the wrong people can turn your well-planned party into a disaster.

If the party is for a particular person then you will need to see who they would like to invite to the party. If the party is a formal occasion such as a wedding or a Bar Mitzvah there are certain people that will need to be invited and these must not be left off the guest list. Forgetting to invite Great-aunt Edna to the new baby’s baptism party can lead to plenty of bad feelings within the family, something you’ll want to avoid.

If the party is an intimate affair, such as a small dinner party, you will need to consider which of your friends you want to invite, in terms of how they mingle. There is no point in inviting your sister and your closest friend if they don’t get along. You may need to have two separate dinner parties to entertain them both! If you are having a dinner party for business colleagues, again consider the dynamics of the group. Will everyone enjoy a sit-down dinner? People may get along at work, but socially it could be completely different. Consider your dinner guests with care as you donít want your evening to turn into a disaster.

If you are throwing a party for teenagers, you will need to take into consideration the number of guests, the possibility that some guests may try to bring in illegal substances, and how many adults you will have supervising. You also want to ensure only invited guests turn up. A good idea is to have one or two adults at the front door, checking guests’ names off a list as they enter. If they aren’t on the list then they can’t come to the party.

If you are throwing a surprise party for a family member you may need to check with friends who they might like to have at the party. Make sure that someone is enlisted to get the honored guest to the party at a time after everyone else has arrived so the surprise will be the greatest.

Your guest list is probably one of the most important considerations when planning your party. A party should be fun and enjoyable. The right guests will ensure this happens.
