Will Your Party Have a Theme?
Themed parties can be lots of fun, or they can make people uncomfortable. If you are going to throw a themed party, think about those people you want to invite and if they would be willing to get into the occasion and really dress up. If not, then keep your theme simple or flexible so they can make the decision to participate or not.
If you are throwing a Fourth of July or Halloween party, you can decorate your party room with plenty of props to set the atmosphere. For a Fourth of July party, your guests may choose to wear stars and stripes or Uncle Sam hats or they may decide to just wear a bit of red, white, and blue. If your Halloween party is a costume one, your guests will have to go to the trouble of getting a costume. Ensure that the people you invite are happy to do this. If not, they may feel out of place or simply not turn up.
If you want to create an atmosphere with a theme but make it easy for your guests to get into the theme, think of something simple like a hat party or a color theme party. Guests can then wear what they are comfortable with, depending on how much they want to involve themselves in the feel of the party.
When throwing a theme party, apart from deciding what you are going to wear and how you will decorate for the party, you may wish to incorporate the theme into your menu. Halloween party food can be lots of fun by giving your dishes spooky names. You may have a potluck dinner party where you ask your guests to dress in their national costume and bring in a dish from their homeland. Or you may throw a traditional afternoon party where you serve your guest’s tea in china cups and have cucumber sandwiches and butterfly cakes to eat. Your party invitations should also reflect the theme.
Themed parties can also include craft parties. This is a party where guests may be taught a new skill, by an expert the host has hired, such as scrapbooking. After learning the craft, the partying can begin. The party food may reflect the type of craft that was learned or the guests may be like-minded craft people. Craft parties work well for children’s parties and for close-knit social groups.
Themed parties can be fun to organize and enjoyable for the guests if they really get involved in the occasion. They won’t be for everyone but are worth a try if you, as the host, enjoy this type of party.
